CJI Did Not Say There Is No Intolerance In Society, Media Did

December 6, 2015: The newly appointed Chief Justice of India, Tirath Singh Thakur, had called the Supreme Court accredited journalists for an informal interactive session, so that the better communication can result into a better flow of information to the common masses. But the very incident itself saw a negative and irresponsible face of reporting. representative photo

A section of media came out with the reports that “CJI says there is no intolerance in society”, which was not the actual position. But as the report came in, reactions from the different political parties and individuals, thanking or criticizing him, started coming.

So what did the CJI say? Being the head of county’s judiciary, Justice Thakur simply skipped the issue by terming it “political” and rather preferred to assure his countrymen that there is no need to fear or worry till the judiciary is “independent” and upholds the rule of law. This was obviously not accepting or denying whether there is intolerance in the country. (Yournews Network)
